A three episode comedy-drama
by Nicholas Wright
When Sam Barrett, a moderately successful university lecturer, is invited to appear on a major national radio show to talk about his new book, he jumps at the chance to finally make it as a ‘public intellectual.’ Suddenly he is the toast of his department, and he finds himself becoming a media star, chatting on Newsnight, writing for national newspapers and even being offered the chance to develop his TV series. After years of obscurity, Sam’s ideas are finally being recognized, and people are listening. But Sam doesn’t reckon on the professional jealousies that will be aroused, and the efforts others will go to bring him back down to earth. With a bump.
Rentagob is a funny tale of personal success and professional jealousy, hubris and nemesis, a History Man for our times. But it is also a story of what happens when a man finally understands that sometimes you have to risk everything to be the person Nike Kurt Coleman Jersey you want to be.
3 x 50 minutes.
